This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the must haves for me each year is high interest, grade appropriate reading materials so kiddos will fall in love with learning just like I did back in elementary school. I looked forward to our Friday "Weekly Reader" time. The closest thing I have found to that is Scholastic News and Scholastic Storyworks.
The Scholastic News is a combination of Informative and opinion articles that are aimed at students, while the Storyworks articles are a combination of fiction and nonfiction on topics that students enjoy reading about.
If you can find materials that are written for students, that interest them, that are accessible to them... then they will enjoy reading. That is the key to hooking them!
I have been teaching for 28 years now, and Scholastic has become a part of my teaching experience. They change with the times, offering both print and digital options. They offer read-aloud options for struggling readers or students learning English. They really help fill the gap that regular learning curriculums sometimes have.
That's why I am requesting 20 digital copies of 4th grade Scholastic News and Storyworks. Thank you for helping foster this love of learning and reading in my students.
