High Interest, Diverse Books for 1st Graders!

Help me give my students a classroom library of easy-to-read chapter books with diverse characters on high-interest topics for 1st graders!

My Project

Do you know the feeling of immersing yourself in a great book?! My 1st graders love being read to in class! Our classroom library needs high-interest, diverse books for beginning readers that they can learn to read themselves.

I want my students to fall in love with reading!

We have 19 eager 1st Graders in our class! Some of my students are learning English as a second language, many receive special education services and a few are having their first school classroom experience post-pandemic. All of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and eat free breakfast in our classroom each morning.

My students are very eager to learn how to read independently and we need easy to read books with diverse characters, so my students can see themselves in these books! We also need books with high interest characters from Marvel, Disney, Star Wars and PJ Masks to draw my students into reading! Students will also be able to check these books out from our classroom to take home and share the joy of reading with family.

Having diverse, engaging books with characters familiar to my students will help engage them in reading. Research shows the best way to become a proficient reader is to read every day! If my students have easy to read books that they WANT to read, they'll read more and become stronger readers! Your donation to my project will help create lifelong readers and learners.
