Help me give my students grade-level and above, culturally relevant, coming-of-age chapter books!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Mercaldo's classroom raised $545
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students benefiting from this project are in a Title One school where the majority receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many families receive meals/coats from our school's food pantry. They are hard-working scholars who have recently returned to the school building and learning in-person but are requesting access to high-interest books.
My Project
I am having success promoting literacy with my students. Since we have recently returned to learning in-person, my sixth graders have enjoyed the books in my classroom library, but are requesting more. I have recently started a Book Review Contest to further promote my sixth graders to read chapter books from cover to cover and then to share their thoughts. The book reviews are being posted online and shared throughout the school.
There are challenges with keeping the excitement for reading going, with all the distractions offered on the internet and media, for my tech-savvy students.
All the books in this project are chapter books that will foster grade-level and above literacy skills including fluency and comprehension. These books have been hand-selected by my students and identified as high-interest chapter books. The students will be completing a creative book report project in groups of 3-5 using many of the books in this project order.
