My students are incredible! My students are in kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hard-working, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans because they have been diagnosed with a disability. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. All of my students come from high poverty areas and they all love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensure this.
My Project
My students love to read! They spend at least 30 minutes of their school day independently reading in addition to the 20 minutes they spend at home reading with their families at home. Despite many of my students reading below their grade level, they can't wait to get their hands on their next book each day.
Research shows students increase their reading skills when engaged with high interest texts at their reading level.
This project will help me get more texts than my students can access independently or with minimal support. When I asked my students what kinds of books they would like added to our classroom library they voted on Amelia Bedelia books, "I Can Read" books, and more sports titles!
