High Interest Books for Self-Regulation for Students with Autism

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are empowered to do their best, but are students with intellectual disability, or autism, which has affected their ability to learn at the same pace as same-aged peers. My class is enrolled in an NYC Specialized School in a high poverty area of the South Bronx. They face cognitive, physical, and emotional challenges that many of us will never have to encounter, every day. They are brave, resilient, and eager to learn, and come to school with a positive attitude each and every day. Students with disabilities require the most support in terms of their ability to achieve academic, social, and vocational success. Unfortunately, in a high poverty area, they are not always able to access the supplies they need to be successful. Additionally, this year, many of my students are living in shelters and experiencing homelessness.
My Project
Each of my students have autism, and are making tremendous progress towards their transition goals to be able to contribute to society after graduation. One of the biggest obstacles they face, however, is self-regulation. My students are struggling to learn how to manage their emotions, and I'd love to enhance my instruction with the support of Steve Herman's Train Your Angry Dragon Series.
My students love to read, but our library lacks high-interest level books with an emphasis on self-regulation.
Steve Herman's series allows my students to become the teacher, and teach the main character crucial skills such as how to be responsible, how to love themself, accept consequences, follow instructions, and try new things. Incorporating these books into our curriculum will truly enhance these skills. We really appreciate your support in helping us to meet our goals!
