Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am privileged to teach many English language acquisition students and special education students, many of whom are reluctant to read. My students benefit greatly from high-interest books and graphic novels that build confidence in their reading and speaking skills.
Students are always so excited to crack open new books that have been selected just for them.
I open the box in front of them or let them open the box and this builds anticipation for what's inside. ELA students struggle to read and comprehend the traditional Shakespearean Language.
I maintain a class set of No Fear Shakespeare books for my students. This has resulted in many students exclaiming, "I love Romeo and Juliet!" or one of the other works we consider, instead of dreading it. I have had students from other classes come into my room and ask, "Have your classes read Romeo and Juliet yet? That was so fun!" Thank you for considering assisting my class in learning to enjoy the challenges of reading. I love their excitement and willing participation.
