My students need hands on activities to improve collaboration, cooperation, and higher order thinking skills including Melissa and Doug's Suspend, IQ Fit, Snap Circuits.
Every day we have a chance to increase our student's ability to solve real-world problems. The problems can be as small as having trouble taking a chair down and as large as thinking deeply about how to get more people recycling. Students may even hear me say, "That's real-world problem solving."
My students are a wonderful group with different backgrounds and abilities.
I had the privilege of looping with half of my class from last year and I'm getting to know the interests of the students who are new to the class. We strive to respect each other, respectfully agree or disagree with ideas, and learn big ideas each day.
My Project
These resources will help my students with opportunities to work together and think deeply. They will be collaborating, building, problem solving, and each week we will be in different groups so they have chances to communicate with different peers. Students will look forward building with Snap Circuits to learn how putting pieces together, problem solving, and making mistakes and thinking through them can make something work. They will get a chance to build a car, tractor, or plane together with Mic-O-Mic construction activities. activities as a chance to play a game or build. The students will go through the design process as they use science and math skills to build building with geometry blocks. The activities were carefully chosen to ensure they are differentiated for a wide range of abilities.
I thought carefully about the students who are gifted, students who have special needs, the students who need to move, the students who need a visual and hands-on experience and the answer is all students can learn and grow from developing important life skills that come from game play, learning that games have rules, and learning that everyone can contribute something to the project.
