My Students
All students need to be prepared to work and function in a technological society. Our students advance their educations by learning about cool technology. However, if you visit us, you will find that it is not about the robots! It's about developing mature, capable and college ready young people.
The 70 students on our robotics team are an excellent cross-section of our school.
Our high school is a suburban, Michigan school of about 1800 students. In the robotics program, we effectively serve many types of students from high achieving honors students, to high achieving special education students. Many of these students have left us to attend prestigious colleges and have gone on to interesting and rewarding STEM careers. During the past two years, we have graduated 28 seniors from the program. These graduates accumulated combined offers of $900,000 in scholarships. In their time with us, our students develop skills that few high school students achieve before college.
My Project
The RoboDawgs build and program robots, but we also love to learn about and play with all forms of technology. Over the past four years, we have sent more than 20 high altitude weather balloons into the upper atmosphere carrying cameras and payloads designed to detect temperature, pressure, altitude and radiation. The high capacity memory card we are requesting will allow our cameras to capture and store high resolution images of the earth from altitudes as high as 25 miles. These inspiring images allow us to study the earth and its atmosphere under a variety of conditions while experimenting with high altitude flight.
Our students have gained experience with many different types of technology.
The realm of high altitude flight also provides an inspiring way to study earth science and physics in a practical context. Our students find the images gathered during near-space flight to be astounding. Your gift will allow us to continue to give them an experience that fires the imaginations of future scientists and engineers.
