Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In Third Grade, many students are still learning how to tell time. We can teach it with worksheets, clock manipulatives, videos... But the best way is to refer throughout the day to a classroom clock that they can all see and have the opportunity to notice what is going on or scheduled during each part of the day, at specific times. Sounds easy... but many students only have access to digital clocks, which makes it difficult to understand elapsed time and other Third Grade math standards.
We are a Title I, low-performing school with a majority of English Language Learners.
I have a wonderful group of 25 third-graders. They are excited, energetic, and enthusiastic. They work so hard all day in the classroom, on math, reading, writing, English-language development... Working in small groups, having access to technology, and working on group projects enhance their English language skills. We need more seating to accommodate these learning centers in our classroom.
My Project
I have had a non-working clock in my classroom for over a year, with no replacement in sight. Although there are other clocks I've purchased for the room, we need a good, readable clock in the front of the room that all can see. Many third graders are still learning to tell time and having a large, readable clock will give them the opportunity to practice telling time throughout the day.
Additionally, we do not have enough seating for my students to sit at our work tables, where they work on technology, math projects, language arts groups, and many other centers to learn independently or in small groups.
The requested stools would enable all students working on technology, projects, or in groups to have a seat!
