My Students

It is the first day of school, a real exciting time in every child's life. Imagine if you showed up on the first day of school with no school supplies. Other children have crayons, colored pencils and glue sticks, but you don't.

My kindergarten students are taking the first big step into school.

Our school is located in central Florida. It is a Title 1 school with close to 86% of the children qualifying for the free/reduced cost lunch program. For many, this is their first school experience, and I would like it to be a positive experience.

My Project

I would like to have school supplies on hand for the children who come to school on the first day with no supplies. Even though we publish a supply list, many families cannot afford school supplies. Giving the five year olds something to call their own on the first day, these supplies will give them the confidence in this new world of school. I would like for my students to start the school off with confidence. I would like them to have the needed supplies to make their school year successful. School budgets have been drastically cut. The children who are most affected by the budget cuts are the ones who live in poverty. My current class is 95% eligible for free or reduced cost meals in the school lunch program. The demographics for our school are projected to stay the same. My children need help getting their school year started successfully.
