My Students

It is the first day of school. A real exciting time in every child's life. Imagine if you show up on the first day of school with no school supplies. Other children have crayons and glue sticks but you don't.

My kindergarten students are taking the first big step into school.

Our school is located in central Florida. It is a Title 1 school with close to 80% of the children qualifying for the free/reduced lunch program. For many, this is their first school experience and I would like it to be a positive experience.

My Project

I would like to have school supplies on hand for the children that come to school on the first day with no supplies. Even though we publish a supply list, many families cannot afford school supplies. Giving the five year olds something to call their own on the first day, will give them the confidence in this new world of school.

I would like for my students to start the school off with confidence.

I would like them to have the needed supplies to make their school year successful. School budgets and been drastically cut. The children that are most affected by the budget cuts are the ones that live in poverty. My current class is 95% free or reduced in the school lunch program. The demographics for our school are projected to stay the same. My children need help getting their school year started successfully.
