Hey You! Yeah You! Turn That Frown Upside Down!

My students need 20 social-emotional themed children's books to help them develop and apply various coping skills in every day life.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. O'Hara's classroom raised $260

This project is fully funded

My Students

My student groups are comprised of eager and curious diverse learners. The students within my groups have a variety of social-emotional challenges that can make functioning in a positive manner day to day, very stressful and overwhelming for them.

I currently teach a unique group of diverse learners ranging in grade levels from Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.

All of my students come into my groups with diverse needs i.e. academic, social-emotional, behavioral, etc. Many of my students live within poverty stricken areas and don't always have the most up-to date materials, access different educational opportunities or even items to help them cope with their emotions as the students in our surrounding communities may have. Their struggles to learn are great, but their spirits are high. They are challenged most with learning appropriate behaviors, managing & expressing their emotions and maintaining healthy relationships. They always try to put forth their best efforts, even when working with teacher made, hand-me-down and make shift materials.

My Project

My students will use the various social-emotional themed books I have requested in many ways. Throughout the school day my students need sensory or "cool down" breaks to help alleviate built up anxiety, stress, anger, etc. Often times if the sensory and emotional needs of my students are not met, the built up emotions will take over and they will experience emotional overload which can effect them for the remainder of their school day. The books I have requested will be used to introduce and reinforce many coping skills that my students are now developing in a fun and interactive way; via a story. I believe these books will provide my students with opportunities to not only learn about being reflective and learning how to cope with their emotions but also to help open doors for questions and communication via a read aloud.

Donations towards this project will support my students by providing them access to additional resources to help them develop coping skills.

These items will also help my students gain independence and allow them to self advocate and manage their emotions before reaching an outburst level. These items will also support my students as a whole by supporting our various emotional/behavioral challenges that arise at any given
