This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an amazing and diverse group of eight to nine year old's. I currently teach third grade at a title 1 school and these students have been absolutely resilient in such uncertain times. We are so excited to start this school year and get back to learning in the classroom space.
My Project
Help my library become more diverse! I would love to be able to add more multicultural chapter books in my library. Since I switched from teaching first grade to third, my library needs more challenging books that represent my amazing diverse group of students.
Research shows that a culturally responsive classroom is a higher achieving classroom, I want my students to love reading.
Giving them the opportunity to select books that represent them creates an interested in reading and has the students focus on the books in their book bins, rather than reading just because they have too.
