My Students

I teach in a township school of Indianapolis, IN. Some of my students are living in poverty and rely on the school to take their mind off of the home situations that are out of their control. Our school has minimal funding for the classroom to help with student success, so it is up to me as the teacher to make sure students are getting the learning they deserve. I love DonorsChoose.org as it gives me the opportunity to heighten their learning and give them opportunities they normally wouldn't have.

My Project

We have multiple classes of PE that we offer and multiple games/sports that we play. We use scoreboards all the time when playing as it is a way for some to stay engaged and enjoy the competitiveness. We also use handheld timers each day during different games and activities.

Our scoreboards that we use on a daily are taped together and are very fragile.

It would be nice to have a new set for the students so they are not trying to fix the scoreboard during game play. The timers would be beneficial for the students to watch as they are playing to know how much time is left and if their play needs to be a bit more aggressive or defensive. Tied game with one minute left can get very competitive. Having the students see and actual timer would help them stay engaged the entirety of the activity or exercise.

These scoreboards and the timer will get used by over 1500 students each year and will definitely help keep the competitiveness in our PE classes.
