Help me give my students gardening supplies for their Spring and Summer gardening program. Our teenagers are expert gardeners after working on an organic urban farm in the heart of Atlanta. They need seeds and so much more!
Hey ya’ll! Spring and summer is right around the corner and our teenagers are so excited for their new garden! Last summer they had the opportunity to work on an urban farm. They put their hearts in their farm work last year and were paid for their labor.
Unfortunately, their beloved garden that they farmed on was destroyed by developers.
Their mentors and youth program developers pivoted quickly and started a new community garden over the winter. They have hand built raised bed and are in need of basic garden tools, seeds, healthy organic snacks, gardening gloves, compost bins and so much more. They will also need gardening books because the summer youth program encourages literacy all year around! These awesome individuals have created an impressive documentary and social media content of their experience working on the farm over the summer.
Last year, the youth participants curated their own event to showcase their time on the farm. They encouraged eachother to shine on stage. Our teenagers work with joy in their hearts and hardly ever complain. Unfortunately, these children live in a food desert with access to one Walmart that is barely walking distance. The crops that they grew and harvested were used to give the community healthy food options. They learned to weigh and preserve their own food. That is why the mason jars are so important. We would love to have organic snacks to provide the youth with some substance to continue working throughout their day. They usually love pizza and wings for lunch. The founders do a wonderful job keeping them fed and mentoring them throughout the program. They have such an amazing opportunity to learn and grow together.
