Help me give my students an opportunity to connect with an author and receive a copy of her book that recounts how her story reached the Supreme Court and changed education across the world.
Our scholars who range from kindergarten to 5th grade are dreamers, readers, achievers, trailblazers, and future leaders. Our students are curious enough to not only ask questions but actively seek out answers. Opportunities that allow them to engage in creative thought processes, learn through discovery, search for solutions, and challenge them by providing innovative learning experiences excites them most!
My Project
Authors of stories that provide actual historical accounts are valuable primary sources that inspire students to learn more about their stories and motivations. This helps students understand that they, too can make a difference in the world and have a positive impact. Ruby Bridges' story has inspired our students to want to connect with her: someone who was courageous enough to make a difference at six years of age. With February being Black History Month and March Women's History Month, this is the perfect time for the author's visit to share her story. This would also serve as a culminating activity for our schoolwide book study that would encourage students to read and increase participation in our book study from parents, teachers, the community, and stakeholders.
