My Students

Students need performance tasks that give students challenging project based learning activities. A document camera is one of the easiest and quickest ways to integrate technology into your classroom. Visual learners benefit as well as other learners. The other items are needed for experiments.

My students live in one of the most distressed communities in the Kansas City area.

At our high school, 92% of students live with families with incomes below the federal poverty level. Many of the families are single-parent households where the parent is working two or even three jobs. Students move with their families many times throughout their school careers. Even with these challenges, students work hard to achieve their full potential in all their course work. They are consistent in doing their work in each class and do their homework each night. They are inquisitive about science concepts and love to explore each new idea. They have a great desire to know about the world around them, exploring changes and why those changes are happening. Our staff is supportive of all of our students, working together collaboratively to make sure that we are meeting the needs of our students. We want to make sure that we are educating the whole child and routinely put in extra hours to do so.

My Project

A document camera is one of the easiest and quickest ways to integrate technology into your classroom. A classroom document camera can be connected to a LCD projector through a computer or connected directly to a LCD projector. This one piece of classroom technology can be used to actively engage students in the learning process. Visual learners will benefit from the use of a classroom document camera by seeing small items, text, demonstrations in a much bigger way. Hands-on learners can also benefit from the use of a document camera by allowing them to be the ones placing objects or items under the document camera and explaining what they are showing. Another benefit of using a document camera is the decrease in copying expense. Experiments are the only means by which cause and effect can be established. Experiments allow the development of science vocabulary and hands-on learning.

One of the best ways to improve students standard of living is to provide them with skills that can aid in their future success in society.

Providing students real-world experiences in mathematics and science in high school allows students to build background knowledge that will further their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These core skills are fundamental for college-readiness and long-term career success.
