This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love my 6th grade students here in Bushwick. They come from incredibly diverse backgrounds and bring such a vibrant mix of cultures, languages, and perspectives into our classroom. Their curiosity, creativity, and resilience inspire me every single day, and I’m always looking for new ways to nurture their brilliance and give them opportunities to shine.

I am in need of materials to support a hands-on engineering and environmental science project where my students will design and build their own solar-powered fountains.

This project will serve as a culminating activity for the science fair, following our unit on solar energy and photovoltaic technology. Students will apply what they've learned about solar panels and energy efficiency to create functioning, sustainable water features.

Purpose and Educational Goals:

This project blends science, engineering, and creativity. Students will investigate how solar panels generate electricity, conduct experiments to determine the optimal conditions for solar energy efficiency, and apply their findings to design and construct working solar-powered fountains using real-world engineering practices.

Through this project, students will gain a deeper understanding of renewable energy, problem-solving, and teamwork—all while engaging in a meaningful, hands-on STEM experience.

I have many of the materials we need, but I am still looking for key components, such as small pumps and bowls.
