My Students
We're going on a word hunt. Please give us the tools to hunt for hidden sight words!
My students are a lively bunch of five- and six-year-olds.
They are eager to learn. These emergent readers need various types of exposure to sight words in order to become successful, independent readers. Unfortunately, 98% of my students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch which indicates that those students are also highly impoverished. This is just a glimpse of the socioeconomic status of the entire student body. This disturbing data along with education budget cuts means that my students lack quality resources that are vital to their academic success.
My Project
This project seeks to offer an emergent literacy adventure during small-group reading instruction or independent practice. Students will learn sight words in a way that is fun and practical. My students will have tons of opportunities for hands-on practice. I have ordered sight word tactile cards, sight word puzzles, sight word tracers, a sight word sentence learning center, and a sight word magnetic sentence board. They will boost word recognition as they hunt for hidden sight words.
It is so important that my emergent readers transition to fluent, independent readers.
This project will build the foundation for their academic career. I need your help in furnishing our reading center with quality, award-winning manipulatives so that my students will become stronger readers.
