My students need 2 incubators for hatching chicks.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Reeves's classroom raised $257

My Students
For an inner city child, watching chicks hatch from incubated eggs is an experience they probably will never unless the school provides it. While information can be gleaned from books, seeing is believing.
As Science Specialist at an elementary school in a large urban area, I work with the teachers to furnish a stimulating learning environment for all the students, grades K-8.
Despite the area's low income and high poverty rate, our school has become known as a place with a can-do attitude and teachers that expect better than "good enough." The neighborhood also has a high transient rate (over 40%) so we often gain students who may not have had much science training in their previous school.
My Project
We need 2 incubators for hatching eggs in the 2 Kindergarten classrooms. The ones we had for six years stopped working last spring. This equipment will provide the life science lesson for 46 little ones. Students will keep a calendar to anticipate when the chicks will hatch. They will care for the live animals by providing water and chicken feed. They will see first hand that birds hatch from eggs.
This hands-on experience will change the basic knowledge these students have.
Rather than boringly reciting "Chickens come from eggs" they will excitedly relate "I saw a chicken hatch out of an egg!"
Nearly all students from low‑income households
