This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I school. Ninety percent of the students we serve are socio-economically disadvantaged. Eighty-one percent of the students are Hispanic/Latino. Fourteen point two percent of the students are Asian. Three percent of the students are White, and two percent are classified as other. These kids are faced with many challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. However, those challenges do not define them. My students are encouraged to persevere and overcome through hard work. My course involves project-based learning to encourage students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers, so they have the skills necessary to succeed in life.
My Project
Please consider donating a HEPA air purifier and additional filters to help prevent the spread in my classroom. My classroom has zero windows and one door that opens to an indoor building. While the school has provided a filter for the circulating vent, my students would also benefit from an additional classroom filter.
On average, I have five students out of class due to sickness.
Missed days lead to missed instruction, less participation, and less learning. We need the filter to slow/stop the spread of sickness now that we are back in person.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
