This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Community School, and our students represent that in every sense of the phrase. Our diverse population includes students from many different backgrounds, many beliefs, and many communities within our larger Bay Area population. Many students come from the local neighborhood, and many students commute into Marin from the north and south so that the students can be near their parent's and guardian's places of business. The students have a rich cultural heritage, and most, if not all, see college as a very real and very attainable path to a meaningful life.

We are a community that values our differences, and makes light of our strengths while supporting both our individual and communal struggles.

My Project

Reeds are an ongoing financial struggle for many young musicians. This disposable component of woodwind instruments needs regular replacement, similar to changing the oil in your car. The average student will be able to use one reed for up to two weeks, but no longer. Our most advanced students may be going through as many as two per week.

Our parents and families are wonderfully supportive, but sometimes there just isn't money for reeds each month.

As a result, sometimes students have to sit out simply because there are no more appropriate reeds in the classroom that day. Please help us maintain a focused environment with uninterrupted learning by helping the students who can not always afford this expense.
