Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a Title I school with limited resources, and students live in an underserved community without access to basic daily needed items.
Many students come to school with some form of trauma or high level of emotional need.
The typical student I serve are low income and first generation students. Students have a mix of Latino and African American backgrounds. They carry with them strong cultural ties and great diversity, yet opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.
My Project
Students come into my office asking me for my lotion or Chapstick for their lips. They are constantly looking in the mirror to check their hair, as most high school students do. I personally supply my students with lotion, body spray and Vaseline everyday. I know being a happy and healthy student will help my students learn. With your help, I can supply my students with their own personal toiletries to take care of themselves. This can teach them to be responsible for keeping track of their stuff while taking care of themselves. I can help to teach them good hygiene. They need to be able to take care of their bodies as well as their minds
