My 8th grade students are extremely curious individuals. Coming from a low-income area, they have learned to make do with very little.
My students are tenacious and truly work to make their voices heard.
These students push every day to lead their school, love one another, and lift up their communities. I see such progress every day and hope their striving for knowledge never quits.
At school, we push to be the constant in their lives, and I make sure to give whatever I can to help them grow each day.
My Project
My first year teaching, I had the privilege of teaching a book club. The young men and women in the book club read a wide array of novels and other literature. However, these students do not always get the access to these books, due to lack of resources. I keep a library in my math room, and try to keep it stocked with reading material from every genre.
The students are entranced by the stories that would come alive from the written word, but don't always have stories that speak to their life and culture.
Students read for pleasure, necessity, and to escape. Sadly, my library has been read through, and I need to update the books so that my students can continue to read different types of literature.
