Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Speech-Language Pathologist who works with PreK-8th grade students. My students face challenges in communication that make it harder for them to fully participate in the classroom, interact with peers, and share their ideas with confidence. I am committed to providing a positive space where students feel comfortable taking risks, expressing themselves, and learning without fear of judgment.

The items I am requesting will provide engaging and motivating activities for the kids to expand their speech and language skills.

These materials can be used flexibly to support a wide variety of goals in speech therapy, including:

Articulation: practicing clear and accurate speech sounds.

Vocabulary: building knowledge of new words.

Grammar and Syntax: forming complete, correct sentences.

Comprehension and Storytelling: understanding and retelling stories in sequence.

Social Communication: taking turns, asking questions, maintaining conversations.

Fluency: supporting students who stutter.

Confident and Self Advocacy: helping children feel comfortable sharing their ideas.

The beauty of games and books is that they can be adapted for multiple students and multiple goals at the same time. For example, while playing Guess Who?, one child may be working on producing the “s” sound, another may be learning how to ask clear yes/no questions, and another may be practicing turn-taking. Storybooks can help students expand vocabulary, strengthen listening comprehension, and build narrative skills all within one activity!
