Helping Students Even the Field in Computing Skills
My students need 5 Chromebooks in order to learn basic computer skills. They are on an uneven playing field trying to move forward in a competitive global market. Please help them even the odds!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from different socioeconomic backgrounds, although many of them are the same in one way: 90+% of my students are on or below the poverty level. These children love all things typical fourth graders love, including playing tag outside, learning new concepts, hands-on activities, and helping each other achieve both individual and whole class goals. They're regular kids doing their best to learn in a classroom that lacks updated technology.
They are a wonderful bunch of curious, goal-driven knowledge seekers, and are deserving of every support to help them reach their full potential in a global marketplace.
It would be a pleasure to see them soar!
My Project
My fourth grade students are in an age where basic computing skills are expected to be learned by middle school, but they have access only to outdated, slow, bulky, old technology. These Chromebooks would help bring them onto the same playing field as other students with access to the internet and basic computing devices. They will be able to research, compile data, and type up short research papers. They will also be able to access Math, Science and Technology sites which will keep them both engaged and allow them to strengthen their skills in all areas, including in the arts.
