My Students
I teach a diverse group of 8th and 9th grade students. For many reasons life, and often school, have been very difficult for them so far. They have all faced many challenges. But they keep showing up, and when they do we work hard together to figure out what they want, and what they'll need to accomplish it.
My Project
Life has been uncommonly challenging for my students. Often school feels the same way, but they keep trying. Each and every one of my students has strengths and struggles that they bring to class. They also have a lot of questions.
One of the common themes is racism and the history of racism in this country.
While I am open to their inquiries, I feel that Mr. Kendi's book 'Stamped' would be a more authentic, thorough and inspiring resource than I alone can offer, and I would love for my students and I to be able to explore it together.
