My Project
While I have moved schools over the last few years, I have noticed a trend across multiple settings. As a school psychologist, I have always been the person students come to when they are struggling with something, but I have noticed a significant increase in the need for more basic supports on a daily basis. My students regularly experience hunger, high stress, and trauma. Most of the items I'm requesting here will help address their basic needs. This grant will allow me to provide food for students when they are hungry as well as help relieve stress through games and fidgets. Students often come to me to have difficult conversations and having something to occupy their hands, whether it be fidgets or a board game, often makes talking much easier. I often keep a small number of fidgets on my desk, but my supply has dwindled over time. I am also requesting an Apple Pencil to use for evaluations. A large portion of my day is spent testing students for special education and an Apple Pencil will make that easier and more efficient, ultimately allowing me more time to address the social emotional needs of my students. With the help of this grant, I hope I am able to continue helping students to feel supported and comfortable at school.
