Helping Harlem Special Needs Students Math Stations
My students need 12 privacy partitions, geometric foam shapes and math Hot Dot individual learning stations to help reinforce basic math skills and give immediate feedback.
Hot Dots should be called Happy Dots! Do you remember how boring it was to practice math concepts? Individual Hot Dot learning stations make students happy as they use their magical Hot Dot pens to practice concepts as the pens tell them if they are correct and encourage them to keep trying.
I teach a contained special education urban public school class with 12 students in grades 2 through 4 in New York.
These are wonderful, loving students who, despite numerous individual challenges, are eager to learn. We have transformed our room in an old school building into a warm, bright, and friendly oasis of learning and acceptance.
My Project
Hot Dots are an amazing teaching tool to help students practice and master concepts. My students love using the pens to practice reading and grammar concepts and now want to use them for math. By donating to this project, you will help these special students enjoy learning as they can individually practice to master math skills like telling time, counting money, and math facts. Because my students all learn at different rates and in different ways, the practice will give them the privacy to practice without distraction as the Hot Dot pens and these math skills cards will give them immediate feedback and encourage them to keep trying. With the pens and individual dot stickers I already have, this project also has geometric shapes to also make a shape Hot Dot learning station.
Your donation will help my current and future elementary special education students by engaging them in learning, allowing them to practice at their individual speed, gaining confidence with immediate feedback, and mastering math facts--all while having fun!
