My Students
What are plants made of? How far away is the sun? Who invented computers? Why do computers make noise? Why do we need algebra? How many stars are in the sky? ... Sound familiar? That's what a classroom full of inquisitive, information seeking kids sounds like!
My students are amazing!
They are eager and excited to start a new school year. They laugh and play through the day while I am engaging them in activities that take learning away from textbooks and slide shows and into their world, their universe!
Our school is located within a tight knit community that is embracing the great diversity within our city. Most students at our school receive free or reduced lunch. We also have a growing special needs population with needs ranging from minimal daily assistance, to constant medical attention. The diversity of our students in abilities, ethnic background, and learning styles keeps our school moving in positive directions developing goals and dreams with our students while providing them the most well planned, exciting, and integrative academic experience possible. Our students, regardless of exceptionalities, have no limitations. We strive each and every day for success for all students.
My Project
Teachers, like myself, are so appreciative of the supplies and donations parents make to our classrooms each day. Still however, we tend to spend hundreds of dollars each year on supplies that are not a part of the normal supply list. We are often inundated with crayons, pencils, glue and scissors but lack the materials that make teaching and learning fun for students. Sometimes the simplest things make learning so much more fun for second graders. Imagine writing notes about your favorite story on a sticky note instead of loose leaf paper - certainly more fun!
There are some things that would make learning more fun for us like sticky notes for marking passages of text, dry erase markers for hands-on work, book rings, library pockets, stamp pads and card stock paper for creating literary and artistic masterpieces, a table top caddy to hold our special scissors and pens, and headphones so we can work on our classroom pads without disturbing those around us.
Having additional supplies in our classroom will expand the possibilities of what we can do.
We can be more creative, artistic, engaged, and prepared for our learning. We're all in this together and with your generosity and donations we can take our learning to new levels and grow our imaginations to new heights.
