Helping Hands: a Care Closet for Students in Need

Help me give my students access to clean clothing, hygiene items, and seasonal essentials through a Care Closet, so they can feel safe, confident, and cared for—ensuring they’re ready to learn and thrive every day.

My Project

In our rural TK–9 school, many of our families face ongoing financial hardships that make it difficult to meet their children’s most basic needs. When students come to school without access to clean clothing, hygiene items, or seasonal essentials, it can impact their attendance, confidence, self-worth, and ability to fully engage in learning. We believe no child should have to worry about these basic necessities during the school day.

To address this need, we are building a Care Closet stocked with essential items such as new socks and underwear, the requested personal hygiene products, weather-appropriate clothing, and small comfort items.

These supplies will be available to students in a safe, discreet, and respectful way—because every child deserves to feel clean, confident, and cared for.

To help keep the Care Closet organized, accessible, and welcoming, we are requesting a storage bins, cubes, shoe racks, and a Bush Furniture Broadview 6 Cube Storage Bookcase in Pure White. This durable, open shelving unit will allow us to sort and store items by category and size, ensuring students and staff can easily locate what they need while maintaining a clean and professional space. Its modern design will also help make the Care Closet feel like a positive, respectful environment rather than a place of charity.
