Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are considered to be over-aged, under-credit, and disadvantaged yet they are some of the most beautiful and inspiring souls you will ever meet. A majority of our students have survived hardships (from economic to social emotional trauma) that most adults do not have to experience. However they continue to stay focused on achieving their high school diploma and beating the odds by being successful after high school.
Now this pandemic has taken away the one dependable structure they had in their lives; a school community they could go to, to escape a negative home, get healthy food, do laundry, and developing skills that will help them in their future.
Our teachers are continuing to help students' skill development through Remote Learning but a number of them are facing harsher economic challenges due to the loss of a guardian or sick family members being in the hospital.
So we are asking for donations to help our most struggling students to get some supplies they need from places that will mail to their homes or a designated pick up location.
My Project
These students are struggling to engage in online learning because they are facing a loss and are unsure about where they will get some essentials to survive the pandemic. So far we have about five students who are experiencing extreme hardships because a care giver passed or is in the hospital. This understandably so, is making it hard for them to engage in their lessons or with their teachers.
So these simple materials of packaged food and cleaning supplies will help them to lessen this worry.
Not only will it help them physically but social emotionally as a morale booster emphasizing that though they may be physically separated from the world they are not alone.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
