Helping Choir Kids Find Their Safe Spaces

Help me give my students a safe space within our school. Many students spend up to 12 hours a day in this room eating, studying, and finding refuge. Your support will create a lifeline of comfort and belonging.

My Project

Research shows that comfortable, flexible spaces reduce stress and boost learning, yet our students spend up to 12 hours a days in a bare choir room with nowhere to recharge. Your donation will provide a comfortable and secure place for kids to relax with calming tools, turning this space into the sanctuary they deserve. For many, it’s the only place they feel safe; help us make it feel like home.

My students don’t just sing in this room—they live in it.

For many, our choir room is the only place they feel safe enough to decompress, eat lunch without anxiety, or even complete homework before heading to both stable and unstable housing. They deserve a space that supports their emotional and creative growth.

How These Items Will Transform Learning:

1. Bean bag chairs & lighting → Reduce stress hormones (proven to improve focus) and provide physical comfort for students who lack it at home.

2. Calming games & art supplies → Offer sensory regulation for overstimulated teens, helping them reset before rehearsals.

Our Goals:

1. Create a trauma-informed space where students who are seeking comfort at school can exhale.

2. Boost academic engagement by pairing music with accessible literature.

3. Foster belonging for marginalized students.

What Makes My Students Special:

Choir is an art form that speaks to students with high intelligence, frequent academic pressures, come from multiple demographic backgrounds, and crave creative outlets. They sing through personal and academic anxieties, homelessness, foster care transitions, and anxiety, and still commit to 12-hour days for performances. Their resilience demands a space that honors their humanity, not just their talent.
