Helping Children With Autism Expand Their Language

My students need vocabulary development photo cards and a smart talk card reader with cards.

This project is fully funded

I teach in a special education building serving children with autism. I have students in grades 1 - 3. We depend a lot on the use of visuals in the classroom to help the children be successful in their day. We work daily on expanding the language skills of the students.

The students I serve have varying levels of skills and need. However, they all have in common the need for communication intervention. Language and communication skills are arguably the most important that people with Autism need to develop for success in school and later in life.

I don't want students to lose interest in learning. I don't want students to become bored at school. I want to keep students interested and keep learning interactive. My students love electronics and bright photos! They all have speech and language delays. This is a perfect solution! The Smart Card Reader allows them to practice their speech and comprehension skills, but they think they are playing a game. This is a really cool electronic gadget that captures their interest from the second it is turned on. They will not realize they are learning.

By investing in this project, you will be helping to increase their speech and comprehension in my class. This is the most important gift you could give their parents and myself.
