FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Schneider's classroom raised $515
This project is fully funded
As a school psychologist in a Title I school in Brooklyn, I have seen a significant rise in the number of children being diagnosed with autism. Though there seems to be special programs for those with significant delays, children who are "higher functioning" do not always qualify for these programs. As a result, they are left to handle the general education classroom with little support and guidance. These children need a great deal of help navigating social relationships and understanding basic social rules and norms. Too often, these children are seen as "outsiders," which negatively impacts their self-esteem as well as their ability to learn within the classroom.
There are many materials available to help these children. With guidance and therapy, I feel that they could meet their potential and not feel so alone. The type of materials that I am requesting are CD-ROMs geared towards teaching children social skills so that they can become better integrated into the classroom setting. The child's classroom teacher and parents can also use these materials in order to facilitate his/her ability to navigate the social world. Thank you!
