My students need a variety of books to help them with personal and social problems such as grief, depression, anxiety, the divorce of their parents, hygiene, etc.

My Students
On a typical day, I work with children in grades prekindergarten through fifth grade. The children are high risk, from a high poverty area of town, and have many social and personal special needs. I am their school counselor and I spend my days helping them in any and every way possible.
I would describe my school as a school that is very needy.
The children are high poverty and have very many needs. Their needs deal with academics, home life, and are personal, social, and emotional. The children are in grades prekindergarten through fifth grade. Though being at high risk and of poverty, the children are a very loving and wonderful group.
My Project
These materials will be used in helping the children deal with personal, social, and emotional problems. These problems include test anxiety, grief, divorce, and hygiene just to name a few. The children at my school don't always easily open up to talk about their problems and issues. They respond very well to literacy and books. I enjoy using books as a tool to get them to open up and talk. From these book, the children will receive advice and coping skills for problems and dilemmas they are dealing with in life. I plan to use these books in one on one counseling sessions, classroom guidance, and groups. Envision these books as tools and a gateway to helping children overcome obstacles in life.
These donations will improve my guidance classroom in many ways.
They will give me new avenues to take in helping children with the many problems they so sadly have to deal with. Honestly, if one book makes a difference in one child's life, then that book was worth owning. Seeing the high needs and high level of problems my children face, I envision these books in making a difference in the lives of very many children.
