Pre-Kindergarten students come from a variety of backgrounds, including Bangladesh, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and of course, the United States to name a few!
Many students recently immigrated with their parents and English is their second language. They enjoy learning through play as we explore ten themes throughout the year. For many this is a first school experience which is both exciting and scary at the same time.
My Project
In this modern day and age, our children need hands on experiences to make us a 21 century competitor. NYC schools are a big believer in STEAM programs - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. We look to start these STEAM opportunities in Pre-K. How you ask? LEGO BLOCKS! Children use Legos to design and build. Your funding would help us bring Lego blocks to our classroom. Legos come in many sizes. We will be able to build child size rooms and homes using our giant brick legos! Building includes the children drawing and using blue prints in our class to sketch our homes and other creations. We will also use straws and connectors to make our own sculptures. All different sized legos will allow our children to use their imaginations to the fullest so that we can create a future of fabulous engineers!
