Helping a Turtle Named Test

My students need clay building tools for a lesson on the Georgia loggerhead sea turtles and their habitats.

My Students

Do you remember the first time your art teacher gave you a ball of clay and began explaining how to transform that ball of clay into something unique?

My students attend a high poverty school but are held to high expectations.

The children may face challenges but they are capable of overcoming those challenges put before them with our help. I hope to help my students by teaching them about the Georgia loggerhead sea turtle with a hands on lesson in clay.

My Project

With an extension of the science standards on Georgia reptiles and their habitats we want to symbolically adopt a loggerhead sea turtle named Test that was injured and currently housed at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. Test arrived at GSTC entangled in fishing line that was deeply embedded in the left front flipper. Emergency surgery was performed on the day of Test's arrival to remove the flipper. While helping Test the children will learn all about the loggerhead sea turtle and it's natural habitat.

The broad impact this lesson will have on the children will also help an injured sea turtle, raise awareness and encourage compassion.
