Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of a dual-immersion program which serves a diverse population. This diversity makes for a very enriching classroom environment filled with engaging conversations and learning. My students understand the importance of bilingualism and as a result, they work very hard during reading and discussions.

All of my students need a balanced library with both Spanish and English books in their reading levels.

Most of my students do not have access to Spanish books at home, as a result, they rely heavily on library books which they only get to check out every two weeks.

My Project

The biggest need in our classroom library is Spanish books: Fantasy, Mystery, Adventure, Historical/Realistic, and Science Fiction are some of the genres my students have an interest in. I have included high-quality books that are visually appealing to my students.

These books will be used for various activities such as reading aloud, guided readings, reading work stations, and independent reading at their grade level (3rd-6th).

These books are intended to help students improve their comprehension and vocabulary in Spanish. In the past, teaching comprehension skills has been one of the biggest challenges for bilingual emergent students because of the lack of Spanish books in our classroom library for them to practice.
