Helping 2nd Graders with Money: Earning, Saving & Spending

Help me give my students ways to practice earning money, saving money and spending money. Money is a hard concept for 2nd graders but it is a skill that need to know!

My Project

Money is a hard concept for 2nd grade students. The desk pet system is a great way to teach about money and responsibility! Desk pets in the classroom serve as a classroom management reward system, also. It is a way to promote positive behavior and engagement. They encourage students to set goals, earn rewards, and take responsibility for their actions, fostering a positive learning environment.

Students can earn class money for good behavior, which they can use to purchase desk pets and accessories, which in turn teaches students how to earn, save, and spend their money.

It also teaches students responsibility. The area is set up like a mini store for student shopping. Each student will have a wallet to collect class money in. As they collect, they decide to save it or spend it. If they see an item they really want, it encourages them to behave to earn more class money.

I have seen this system be such a positive project in other teachers' classrooms. I am excited to introduce this system to my class! They will be so excited and motivated to be good. Thank you for considering helping me with this classroom management system while learning money concepts.
