Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade, bilingual special education teacher in a high-need community school in the Bronx, NY.
My students came into my classroom this year as non-readers and non-writers. They have picked up many skills this year and they are flourishing as writers. Being English Language Learners and having learning disabilities have not stopped these children from learning how to write sentences and coming up with creative ideas that they try to write out.
The journals and filler paper I am requesting are to give the children more practice with their writing, and to begin preparing them for the 3rd grade. Our class also needs a new electric pencil sharpener, as ours fizzled out a few weeks ago. I am also requesting a timer to get the children accustomed to completing tasks within a certain time frame (or at least push those who are a little more able towards completing timed activities).
Your assistance will help these worthy children become better writers. They need as much help as possible developing this skill. Writing is a subject that is injected in every content area and a skill that they will need from their current grade level on through the rest of their lives.
