Help! Weightlifters Need Music!

Help me give my students the gift of music during their workouts. The stereo receiver in our weight training room died. Please help fund a new Sony Stereo receiver so our students can get energized for their workouts.

My Students

I am a high school teacher at a Title 1 school where many of our students come from low-income families, poverty, and low socioeconomic status. Also, our school offers a free or reduced-cost school lunch. As a result, these students need extra support due to their unique needs and challenges at home and school.

Despite their situations that make it difficult, if not impossible, to focus on personal achievement while at school, physical education is one area where many of them excel.

It has been proven that physical activity allows children to have a better outlook on life by building confidence, managing anxiety and depression, and increasing their self-esteem.

Our students are motivated to improve their strength and stamina. We teach them the proper techniques for lifts and how to spot them. We create workouts and test the students to monitor their progress and create their own goals and workouts.

These kids are a pleasure to work with, and they have risen to the challenge of working out without music. They miss it, but hopefully, the energy that music brings will be back.

My Project

This project is written out of necessity for my kids. Music is their motivator. It keeps them in a good mood, increases their endurance, and it even distracts them from what they are really doing – exerting their bodies!

Having no music in the weight room is like the kids losing their phones – they do not function well!

We did have a receiver that was about 12 years old. Unfortunately, it just died. There are 7 speakers mounted on the walls, ready for a new receiver, but we cannot rely on a school budget to help us.

I am sure you all can relate to listening to good music. You cannot help but feel happier and maybe even start dancing a bit! It is a known fact that when listening to music, people run farther, bike longer, and swim faster than usual without even realizing it. Music in the weight room will also help these kids work harder – and happier!

Thank you so much for considering this project. We will be able to use it for many years to come, and the kids will be extremely thankful.
