This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine sitting in band class, playing a piece of music. Now picture the top to your music stand falling off, or the stand tipping over and knocking over the stand next to you. Well, it happens to my band and orchestra students all the time. Also, only 1/4 of them are lucky enough to have a stand.
I teach at a school that has almost 1500 students in pre-K through 8th grade.
We are considered an overcrowded school, and most classrooms have 30 plus students. 95.9% of the students are low income students. 8.2% are special education students. 19.1% are limited English learners. My band and orchestra students are wonderful children and hard working. I am so impressed with their willingness to learn.
My Project
We are in desperate need of more music stands. Last year during the spring concert, we did not have enough stands; therefore, we had to pass around the stands between numbers. The majority of the stands do not hold music or stand upright. Some of them tip over because the screws no longer stay in. I have over 90 students in beginning/advanced band and orchestra, and only 15 working music stands. We are asking for another 15 music stands to have at least enough to cover each group when they perform.
By providing my students will music stands, you are giving them the gift of music and helping them to succeed as musicians.
I have students who struggle in their classrooms, but thrive in the music room. Please give my students a chance to grow to their full potential by providing them with the proper equipment to play their instruments.
