My students need flexible seating like beanbag chairs and crew furniture in my self-contained six grade class. They get restless sitting in their traditional seat all day.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 26 energetic 6th graders. My students academic level varies from gifted and talented to far below grade level. The majority of my students are ELL. About 95% of my students are from low income families. This year we are implementing a more rigorous academic program in my class. This program will help challenge and meet the needs of all my students. They will take control of their own learning and choose their academic activities. I am building a positive learning community in my classroom where all of my students are eager to reach their full potential academically.
My Project
I need flexible seating in my self-contained sixth grade classroom. Part of building a positive learning community is having a student centered classroom. These gaming chairs and bean bags will allow students to choose the seat that best fit their learning styles. This will allow students to collaborate with one another more effectively in small groups. It will also allow students to be comfortable as they focus on their academics. My students tend to get restless in their traditional seats and get off task. Flexible seating will allow my students the flexibility they need to increase their academic engagement time.
