Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher and I work in our redirection classroom with grades 6-8. My class is for students with emotional and behavior challenges.
It is a challenge to provide rewards for good behavior in my class, because our resources are extremely limited. My students would love to have free drawing time as a reward for good behavior. Most of my students are not able to afford anything but the basics and some not even that.
My plan is to set up a cubicle with lots of art supplies. Nothing fancy, just markers, crayons, colored pencils, and lots of paper. When a student meets their behavior goals, this area can be a reward. For Example, if a student goes through a math class without getting in trouble, he/she can earn 15 minutes in the art cubicle.
Your help will put a smile on a child's face and really help set up a winning environment in our classroom. Crayons seem like a small thing to some, but to these students they are rewards.
