My Students

“The arts are an essential element of education, just like reading, writing, and arithmetic…music, dance, painting, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment.” ~William Bennett, Former US Secretary of Education.

All my students are bright, intelligent, curious, and very interested in learning about Visual Arts.

My students are one hundred children from the English-Spanish Bilingual Program and thirty students are from Special Education. My students are students from Kindergarten 1 to 2nd grade. Almost all of my students come from low-income households.

The families of my students are from Central America, Haiti, Brazil, Colombia, Morocco, or the United States. Almost all of my students were born in Boston, MA. My students are learning to write and read in Spanish and English. They love to draw, paint, and build paper sculptures. They are happy when they have art supplies and make great art activities. In these difficult times, my students' parents lost their jobs and cannot afford to buy art supplies because they are concerned about obtaining food.

My Project

My new students will create their first self-portrait. My students are coming to our art room for the first time. Our students are creative and curious about learning to draw and paint. We need all of these basic art supplies to create your first self-portrait. For many of my students, it will be the first day of school and they need these essential art supplies. They will learn to draw points and lines with crayons and to create geometric shapes. After that, they need the little mirrors to reflect their beautiful faces and learn how to make their self-portrait.

With your help and support, my students will build their first lifelong school memory.

They will learn that everyone is unique and beautiful. They will learn to respect each and other and accept our differences.
