My Students
My school is made up of a racially, economically, linguistically, and culturally-diverse group of elementary students who are passionate about using technology in the classroom and eager to have teachers who integrate technology effectively into their instruction.
Although my school is historically low-performing, the administration, staff, and students are committed to changing perceptions, breaking barriers, fostering growth, and achieving our goals.
With your help, we can continue our growth by fostering a professional environment of collaboration and learning in which teachers master the technological tools and strategies needed to help our students be successful. Unfortunately, my school is lacking tremendously in resources and funding, and we were provided with hardly any materials.
Although they live in one of the most exciting and progressive cities in the world, the overwhelming majority live in extreme poverty, and most receive free lunches. The one thing linking all my scholars together is a love for learning that has not yet been altered by the challenges facing them daily. I passionately want them to love school and be motivated to gain as much knowledge as possible, with their enthusiasm for school
My Project
In kindergarten hands-on learning is essential. I am looking forward to using sensory play to encourages open-ended thinking, language development, collaboration, and building fine motor skills in my students. I’m hoping this sensory table will be both engaging and calming for my kindergarten students. The sensory table can be a great way to have students engage with each other through cooperative play. Students will also work on sharing materials and common goals when playing. Students can work on lifting, pouring, carrying, and splashing the water and sand. I plan on filling it with rice some weeks and having them dig for letters or words. Other days it will be filled with water and they will be searching for numbers or learning about pouring from a small container through a funnel into a larger container. The possibilities are endless!
