This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic and eager students who are ready to learn but don't have appropriate books to read during silent reading or to check out from the classroom library. By the end of the school year, I want them reading at grade level.
My class consist of twenty-two Latino English Language Learners.
They all qualify for school breakfast and lunch.Unfortunately, they live in a low socio-economic demographic where parents lack the money or resources to provide access to reading resources at home.
My Project
Everyday my students ask me when will I have more books for them to checkout. They tell me that their parents ask about it too.Currently, I have a leveled classroom library but with few to no books to checkout from the classroom at their current guided reading levels. My students' guided reading levels range from A - I. Students need access to books at their current level to make Reading comprehension progress.
My students have set Reading comprehension goals since the beginning of the school year.
Having access to a leveled classroom library will allow them to checkout appropriate books. Thus, this will improve reading comprehension and fluency. In order to advance a reading level, they have to read books that are just right for them.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
