Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school equips low-income students with the knowledge, skills, and strength of character needed to succeed in college and serve as leaders in their communities. We instill not only academic achievements but also values that will help them grow and thrive as they go to college and beyond.

Many of the students in my class are ELL (English Language Learners)--Spanish is the language that most of them speak at home.

There are also a range of learning needs in my classroom with a couple of IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). They are an excitable bunch and love to play and learn.

My Project

The students in my class are eagerly reading the books that they received from another project - so much so that they are ready for some new ones! The books that are on their level are so engaging for them. It allows them to be able to actively read the books rather than flipping through the pictures.

With these leveled books, the students are able to practice their strategies that are taught during guided reading independently.

This helps them to improve their reading and move up and up in their reading levels. They are so proud and excited when they move to a new level, and as they move up they enjoy reading books on their level so much!

Our school has some available, but they are very old and worn down, and many are not on specific reading levels. These new already leveled books are a perfect addition to our leveled library!
