Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Before walking into my class, each of my students makes eye contact with me, smiles and says, "Hello, Ms. Y. I am (insert positive word or feeling word)." My goal for each of them is for them to say, "Hello, Ms. Y. I am a future (insert science/computer/math career here).
My high risk, low income students are the joy and laughter of my soul.
They constantly inspire me with their resilience, passion for learning, and drive to become successful, productive members of the world stage. By focusing on a growth mentality, these future adults are active learners who know that with consistent hard work, they can overcome their beginnings; thus changing the world for themselves, their families and following generations.
My Project
These items will make a different in my students' learning in many ways. The 50" TV will help my students' faces and gestures be seen on Zoom. Increased visibility will help me better assess their understanding by seeing their non-verbal cues such as eye contact and gestures like shaking their head. Otherwise, on Zoom, I will have 43 faces about the size of a quarter on my computer screen where I can't recognize them, much less build relationships that are so crucial right now. As for the whiteboard, it gives me a place to write that is large enough for my students to see through the Zoom camera. The gooseneck tablet stands will allow me to mount my iPad and iPhone to use as document cameras since the document camera I have is not compatible with Zoom.
During the time of CoVID-19, my students need extra help with the social-emotional learning.
The FlexSpace Comfy Floor Seats and FlexSpace Wobble Cushion will help my students who need different seating arrangements to be able to focus on what they are learning. These alternative seating options gives them the opportunity to listen to their bodies and do what helps them find what feels "right" to them.
Finally, the $200 gift certificate from Teacher Pay Teachers will allow me to purchase online resources for my students. While I have access to the district science curriculum, my students will benefit from having curriculum that meets their specific needs and interests.
